Paul D. Hazlehurst has been practicing law in Maryland for almost 20 years. From 1991 to 1994, he was a public defender, first in the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County, and later in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. From 1994 to 2010, he was an Assistant Federal Public Defender practicing in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. During 2009, he served as counsel to the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary for Senator Edward M. Kennedy.

Mr. Hazlehurst has handled virtually every type of state and federal criminal case. From driving offenses to homicides in state court and white collar prosecutions to death penalty litigation in federal court, he has broad experience that includes extensive time in the courtroom trying cases. He has an excellent reputation as an advocate and prides himself on finding the solution that best serves his client.  He is extremely proud of his record of public service and is committed to bringing the passion with which he served the underprivileged to the private practice of law.

Mr. Hazlehurst is a graduate of the Gilman School, the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, and the University of Maryland School of Law. He was a scholarship athlete at North Carolina, where he was a member of the 1981 and 1982 NCAA championship lacrosse teams.

Sean P. Vitrano has earned a reputation as an effective, no-nonsense negotiator and skilled courtroom advocate.  From 2007 until 2010, Mr. Vitrano was an Assistant Federal Public Defender for the District of Maryland, where he handled a wide range of criminal cases, including one of the district’s largest-ever fraud cases.  Previously, he was an associate at two prominent law firms in Baltimore, where he represented clients in complex civil and white collar criminal litigation, appeals, and grand jury investigations.  Mr. Vitrano also served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Richard D. Bennett of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.

Mr. Vitrano is a graduate of the University of Bristol (United Kingdom, B.A., German and Politics, 1993) and The Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University (J.D., magna cum laude, 2001).

Mr. Vitrano is a member of the Criminal Justice Act Felony Panel in the District Court and regularly represents indigent clients charged with serious offenses. In 2008, he was recognized by the court for his successful pro bono representation of a Maryland inmate in a prisoner civil rights case. In 2009, he was named to Super Lawyers’ list of Rising Stars in the area of criminal defense.
